JBA Consult Europe initiated and organized the Workshop “Stormwater Management in Romania – Challenges, Regulations, Solutions”

On 19 May 2026, JBA Consult Europe organized the workshop “Stormwater Management in Romania – Challenges, Regulations, Solutions” in Bucharest, in partnership with the Romanian Water Association (ARA) and the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (UTCB).
The event brought together representatives from public central authorities, riber basin authorities, water utilities, academia, NGOs and industry experts to discuss the increasing challenges posed by urban flooding and climate change in Romania.
A highlight of the workshop was the keynote presentation delivered by Jeremy Benn, who presented the UK legislative framework and national approach to urban flood and stormwater management, sharing lessons learned and best practices from the UK experience.
Besides Jeremy presentation as Key note speaker, JBA Consult Europe had also contributed with two other technical presentations:
• “Hazard Mapping as a Tool for Surface Water Management Plans – UK Case Study”
• “The First Surface Water Management Plans in Romania – Case Studies”.
The workshop also included presentations on legislation, climate change impacts, urban drainage challenges, Surface Water Management Plans and international best practices, followed by a roundtable discussion on the future of urban stormwater management in Romania.
The event was very well received by participants (more than 70) and proved to be a successful platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration and dialogue on the future of stormwater management in Romania. It also reinforced JBA’s pioneering and growing role in supporting the development of modern flood risk and stormwater management practices in Romania.
