ASSESSMENT OF THE INVESTMENT'S IMPACT ON WATER BODIES AND HYDROMORPHOLOGY

  • SEICA (Water Body Impact Assessment) – covering defense infrastructure, hydroelectric developments, micro-hydro power plants, and gravel pits
  • Hydromorphological studies
  • Sediment modeling and budget

RELEVANT PROJECTS

These studies have been developed for the projects aimed at increasing the share of electricity production from renewable sources through the Surduc-Siriu, Cerna-Motru-Tismana and Pașcani hydropower schemes (final beneficiary SPEEH Hidroelectrica SA).

Within these projects (currently ongoing), JBA Consult Europe contributed to the Study for Impact Assessment on Water Bodies’ Reports from the hydromorphological alterations’ perspective and the application analysis for the article 2.7 (Water Law), which – at this moment – represents a premiere for the HIDROELECTRICA investments. The main objective of these projects was to identify and establish practical / feasible measures for mitigating the impact and for ensuring post-implementation monitoring for the chosen measures.

Under HORIZON Programme, DANube SEdiment Restoration: towards the deployment and upscaling of sustainable management of the sediments across the Danube catchment basin (DANSER) project focuses on restoring sediment balance, improving sediment flow and quality, and integrating innovative solutions to address environmental challenges. DANSER project is coordinated by DDNI under EU HORIZON research call for Danube river basin lighthouse – Demonstration of effective and sustainable management of sediments in the Danube River-Black sea system (2025 – 2027).

JBA is part of the pilot/demo site team for the Lower Danube. The scope of JBA work is hydrodynamic modelling in the 3 pilot areas (Iron Gates, Friendship Bridge and Danube Delta) and proposal for effective solutions for sediment management at river basin scale.

The Studies for Impact Assessment on Water Bodies have been developed during the period 2017 – 2020 for flood risk management projects financed through POIM, axis 5 Floods (beneficiary RBA Someș-Tisa, Jiu, Olt, Buzău, Siret, Dobrogea-Litoral), developed in accordance with national legislation (GD 828/2019) and European recommendations (the JASPERS Optional tool for WFD Compliance). The evaluations were based on the Methodology for determining the hydromorphological indicators for rivers from Romania (INHGA, 2015), the results of hydraulic modelling and where necessary, a hydromorphological study / audit (based on field visit).
